I’m currently reading international relations theory for a paper I gotta finish ’till Friday, about whether or not the UN has changed its views on war and peace, recently. And in his “Understanding International Conflicts”, Joseph S. Nye, Jr. writes the following:
“If the League of Nations was designed to prevent World War I after the fact, the United Nations was designed in 1943-45 to prevent World War II.”

XD Damn, it’s even right, isn’t it?! XD
Speaking of silly politics, I’m having SUCH a riot with this not-sending-more-soldiers-to-Afghanistan-thing today. Jensen was on the verge of tears! Høybråten has never looked more bitter! Gahr Støre appeared in a burning bush, said his piece, and flew off in his invisible red cape as he saw a new Batsignal in the sky. (I love that man, and I love how much funny people manage to make out of his actually being a competent politician XD)
I’m sitting here re-watching clips from Kveldsnytt, Dagsrevyen and Redaksjon En on web-tv, and I never even watch the news. XD
Yeah, I saw some of it. Jensen said she had no words to describe how destructive this was for our relationship to our allies in NATO, but in spite of this, she seemed to have an awful lot to say.
And Solberg! Tried to spin this into Labour giving this small victory to the Socialist Left, and said that it was “very sad that the people of southern Afghanistan has to suffer so that Kristin Halvorsen won’t have to swallow any more camels”.
As if the Afghans even want us there…
Anyway, speaking of Gahr Støre, I just had good news:

Hopefully, his visit won’t collide with one of my term papers!
Ah, I didn’t get why that was good news before I reached the very end of the article. XD
Seriously, though, that man is fanstastic. I love how he expresses himself. Nobody but him really talks like that anymore, not even other politicians, and it’s a damned shame. Like, when some reporter asked him some sensationalist question on thetelly today, and he begun his reply with “Den virkelighetsbeskrivelsen står jeg ikke inne for.” I know it’s geeky, but to me, that’s the essence of cool. XD
And yes, I noted that Solberg-statement as well. Oh, and Jensen when she first found out about it! Pushing herself through the team of journalists surrounding Gahr Støre and the minister of defense, what’sherface, and more or less pouting by his not coming to Stortinget’s utenrikskomitè (i.e. her) with this before going public. And then when he in his impeccable and calm manner replies to her statements, she stomps off, almost shouting: “Jeg er dypt sjokkert. DYPT SJOKKERT!” before finding Solberg, and then they head off together, looking as though they’re both unsure whether or not to cry or shake their heads in condescending disdain. XD
Seriously, sometimes, I love democracy. As a form of government it’s ludicrous at best, but… It’s so damned entertaining when done right. (Or left, or centre)

Agreed. I’ve seen him do that before, too. It’s awesome to see a politician who actually disagrees with journalists and contradict them, especially when it’s done so classily.
So, it is not likely I will get any more lectures to read this week?
Nopes. Not in the next week or two, either. Got another paper next week, and next weekend I’m visiting my parents. But after that, I have to speed theing up on this lecture note project. I’m falling awfully behind, and I need them all done before November 30…
“t’s awesome to see a politician who actually disagrees with journalists and contradict them, especially when it’s done so classily.”
I know, and he does it ALL the time. Just yesterday, on Dagsrevyen, he SCOLDED the journalist interviewing him for her use of the word “drittjobb” regarding the missions in the south they were now not sending soldiers to, a phrasing which he (rightly) claimed implied that the missions they already were doing in the north weren’t “drittjob”s. And he did it, of course, with several cool, long words. The poor girl was completely taken aback. I mean, politicians who talk back at the media? Live? (Dagsrevyen is live, right? More or less?) Whenever does THAT happen?
